Smithy Introduction

Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, famous Australian aviator of the 1920s and 1930s, and his co-pilot Tommy Pethybridge went missing during their attempt to break the London to Australia flight record in November 1935. For three years no debris was found to show what happened to their plane, the Lady Southern Cross, and where it crashed.

What happened to them and why? It's a mystery. To find out the possible answers to these questions you need to follow the steps in the correct order.

Good luck, perhaps you can solve the mystery.

A Note to Teachers:

This interactive inquiry based mystery has been designed so that students can explore a range of evidence relating to three theories of what happened to the Lady Southern Cross. Their task is to explain why he disappeared using evidence and an interactive storyboard.
