Details
Wylly was one of two officers present at the same action as John Bisdee (who was also awarded a VC). Wylly, himself wounded, saw that one of his own men, Corporal Brown, was badly wounded in the leg and was dismounted. Wylly, despite his own wound, went to the assistance of Brown. He gave his horse to Brown and, at the risk of being cut off, opened fire from behind some rocks to cover the retreat of the others.
