During an attack on the enemy Rattey led his section, firing a Bren gun from the hip until he was on top of the first Japanese weapon-pit. He flung in a grenade and called his men forward. Using the same tactics he killed the Japanese in two more weapon-pits. He then advanced on a Japanese machine-gun post and with his Bren gun killed one of the team, wounded another, and put the rest to flight. Rattey’s action enabled the advance to continue and the company gained its objective within the hour.
