By the end of this activity students will be better able to:

  • Describe a significant event which has contributed to the Australian identity
  • Discuss whether core values such as ‘mateship’ and ‘the spirit of ANZAC’ are part of the Australian identity
  • Use the past to interpret and understand the present
  • Appreciate that people interpret history in different ways
  • Consider the connections between resources, economy, internationalism, living standards and ecological sustainability
  • Evaluate the significance of international pressures and human rights
  • Critically analyse factors promoting and hindering the achievement of national viability in East Timor.
